SCHOOL STRUCTURE & POLICIES
I. Objectives
- The objective of the Weekend Islamic School is to provide the basic Islamic education to children. This education includes Qur’an learning in Arabic, surah memorization, Qur’anic translation, Islamic Faith, Fiqh, Ahadith, Seerah and Sunnah of the Prophet (SAW), and Islamic history.
II. School Administration Structure
- a) Weekend Islamic School Director: Appointed by the Board of Trustees
- b) Principal and Assistant Principal Saturday / Sunday School Sessions: Appointed by the Board of Trustees, input by School Director.
- c) Teaching staff: Volunteer teachers are selected from the community for both school sessions by School Director and Principals. Normally, parents are volunteer teachers.
- d) Executive Council Members or designate(s): EC members provide assistance as required for student registration, school fee collection and website assistance.
III Responsibilities
- The School Director:
- a) Researches, selects and establishes School curricula with the Board Approval.
- b) Serves as a liaison between the school and the Board of Trustees.
- c) Creates academic calendar for the School Sessions.
- d) Standardizes student progress reports.
- e) Maintains accurate student registration information.
- f) Prepares and provides students registration information to respective school principals and teachers.
- g) Prevents curricula, policies or program changes during the academic year.
- The School Principals:
- a) Plan and oversee school and students activities during school hours. ISGVF Weekend Islamic School Page 2 of 3
- b) Maintain discipline during school hours.
- c) Conduct and arrange school assembly.
- d) Evaluate and place students in appropriate grade level.
- e) Communicate information with all school staff members.
- f) Hold meeting with school staff (class teachers, assistant teachers and volunteers).
- g) Arrange volunteer substitute teachers as needed.
- h) Communicate School info and student progress with parents.
- i) Avoid changing curricula, policies or programs during the academic year.
- The Assistant Principals:
- a) In the absence of the Principal, assumes the School Principal’s responsibilities.
- b) Assist the Principal in discharging the school responsibilities and
organizing school events.
IV. Policies
- 1. The Weekend Islamic School is overseen by the ISGVF Board of Trustees.
- 2. All school staff members and officials are volunteers.
- 3. The Board of Trustees appoints the School Director, Principals and Assistant. All appointments are for a one year term starting July 1.
- 4. The weekend school hours are, on Saturdays from 8:30 AM to 2 PM and on Sundays from 10 AM to 2 PM.
- 5. No other meetings or programs are permitted on the premises during the school hours.
- 6. The School Administration is not permitted to hold any program outside school curricula during the school hours.
- 7. The Weekend Islamic School is divided by academic and age levels.
a) Students age limits for admission are five years minimum and eighteen years
maximum on September 1 of enrolling year.
- b) Classes for levels KG, level one, two, three and four (approximate age 5 – 10) are held on Saturdays. c) Classes for levels five, six, seven, eight and High School (HS) (approximate age 11 – 18) are held on Sundays.
- 8. The school fees, cost of books and supplies are requested to be paid in full at the time of registration.
- 9. The school fees, cost of books and supplies are not refundable after completion of registration. ISGVF Weekend Islamic School Page 3 of 3
- 10. Parents are responsible for school fee, cost of books and supplies for entire academic year once their child is registered, even if child drops out of the school, i.e., there is no partial year school fee or cost of books and supplies.
- 11. All visiting groups during school hours are required a prior approval, either from the President, School Director or from respective School Principal.
- 12. Both school sessions hold combined annual graduation for all classes at the end of each academic year, preferably on Sunday. The School Director, Principals and teachers plan and coordinate with the help of the Society’s Executive Council members.
